Manifesto point 4 - We strive for fair access to craft and making for all.

“As Tom Pigeon, a craft and design studio, we became increasingly concerned that the creative industries were a place of privilege. Our social project Make Bank was established to tackle Creative Poverty and we work with schools throughout Scotland and the UK to provide disadvantaged pupils with materials and support to allow them to pursue creative subjects and careers. We hope that we can be part of a movement that enables fair and equal access to our industry, a movement that nurtures the diverse future of creativity in this country.”

Kirsty Thomas is founder and director of design studio Tom Pigeon and social project Make Bank. Tom Pigeon creates collections across jewellery, print, stationery and homewares from their studio on the East coast of Scotland and works with stores and clients around the world. Make Bank is a social project launched in May 2019 to tackle increasing Creative Poverty in UK schools. The project provides materials and support for disadvantaged pupils enabling continued creative study and equal access to creative careers.
